Обновление сделано накатыванием образа rootfs.img, поэтому затрёт все хаки. Ну и, по старой-доброй традиции, после обновления актуальные хаки запросто могут отказаться устанавливаться/работать.

А я вот думаю, зачем ему wifi, если я буду его использовать в основном только для чтения через coolreader формата fb2. Время синхронизировать? И рекламу качать? А можно сделать, чтобы он не просил через некоторое время коннекта к wifi для скачки рекламы?
Не синхронизирует он время по WiFi. Рекламу - да. И контент отправленный почтой скачивает. Если это все ненадо, тада да - не регистрируй его вообще на амазоне и не будет просить скачать рекламу.

Ну вот, линк даете, а саму ветку не читаете. Существующий джейлбрейк на 5.3.0 РАБОТАТЬ НЕ БУДЕТ, Амазон пропатчил все дырки. _________________ Kindle Touch, Kindle PW, Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy III
По следующей инструкции обновил прошивку до 5.3.0. Хаки работают, по крайней мере переустановил kindlet, usbNetwork и русскую клавиатуру. Coolreader также в порядке. На днях должен появится бинарник, для тех, кто не успел обновиться.
skat Мой опыт подсказывает, что смысл обновляться есть только тогда, когда без какой-то из анонсированных фич или багофикса категорически невозможно жить. Я бы сказал - скорее, никогда. Раз уж Амазон конкретно занялся "заделыванием дыр", то любой хак, опубликованный на mr или даже тут, будет тут-же "пофикшен" хотфиксом. А если хаки не делать общественным достоянием, то тогда white hats будет неинтересно...

С тезисом о неотвратимом джейлбрейке для PW я согласен, но вот выпуск новой прошивки для предыдущих моделей этот процесс не ускорит...
У K4 и KT есть режим загрузки произвольного кода в оперативную память (через USB-соединение) и последующего его выполнения; и режим этот не отключить никакой прошивкой. Я говорю про USB downloader mode. У K3 тоже есть подобный режим, но он, вроде бы, позволяет лишь перезаписать внутреннюю флэшку (т.е., допустим, откатиться на предыдущую прошивку).
Поэтому обладатели K4/KT спят спокойно, т.к. в случае выпуска новой, "глобально" оккупированной прошивки, пользовательская разработка пойдёт в направлении сборки миниатюрной Linux-системы и последующего запуска этой системы через USB downloader mode, после чего устройство будет под полным контролем владельцев. Навсегда.
Кстати, USB downloader mode обеспечивается "центральным процессором" (Freescale'овским SoC), а у PW SoC аналогичен SoC'у K4/KT. Вот только для активации режима необходимо при включении устройства установить логическую "единичку" на парочке пинов. Для K4/KT это достигается зажатием кнопки. А у PW никаких кнопок нет...
